The research on energy communities, virtual power plants and microgrids at the Electrical Energy Laboratory (EELAB) started in 2008 and covers a wide range of topics, from control of microgrids to energy management of industrial sites and residential energy communities.
The microgrid research focused, at first instance, on voltage-based primary control of islanded AC microgrids, which has been extended to various microgrid-related topics such as secondary control, harmonic power sharing, etc.
Besides islanded microgrids, different energy system concepts have been investigated such as virtual power plants, specific types of microgrids, e.g. business parks, and energy communities.
